Reduction of self-phase modulation in double-clad photonic crystal fiber for nonlinear optical endoscopy.
Double-clad photonic crystal fiber and double-clad fiber have been widely used in multiphoton-excited fluorescence or second-harmonic generation (SHG) endoscopy. We provide a useful comparison of two fibers used in nonlinear optical microendoscopy. While a double-clad fiber is found to have a higher percentage of the output power from its core, which results in the efficient utilization of the ...
متن کاملSelf-Phase Modulation in Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers
This paper presents a detailed theoretical and experimental study of the impact of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) on self-phase modulation in semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). A theoretical model of pulse propagation in SOAs is developed that includes the ASE power and its effect on gainsaturation and gain-recovery. We study the impact of ASE on the nonlinear phase shift, frequency...
متن کاملCross-Phase Modulation in Multispan WDM Optical Fiber Systems
The spectral characteristics of cross-phase modulation (XPM) in multispan intensity-modulation direct-detection (IM-DD) optical systems are investigated, both experimentally and theoretically. XPM crosstalk levels and its spectral features are found to be strongly dependent on fiber dispersion and optical signal channel spacing. Interference between XPMinduced crosstalk effects created in diffe...
متن کاملMeasurement of Nonlinear Parameter of an Optical Fiber by Characterizing of Self-phase Modulation based on BOTDA
We propose a novel method to measure the nonlinear parameter of an optical fiber by characterizing the evolution of self-phase modulation (SPM) based on Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (BOTDA). The nonlinear parameter of an optical fiber is measured to be 2.03 W-1km-1, which agrees well with previously reported result.
متن کاملOptimization of Bistability in Nonlinear Chalcogenide Fiber Bragg Grating for All Optical Switch and Memory Applications
We solve the coupled mode equations governing the chalcogenide nonlinear fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) numerically, and obtain the bistability characteristics. The characteristics of the chalcogenide nonlinear FBGs such as: switching threshold intensity, bistability interval and on-off switching ratio are studied. The effects of FBG length and its third order nonlinear refractive index on FBG cha...
